Anna Johnson Print Exhibit Now on Display at Nichole’s Fine Pastry

Nichole’s Fine Pastry has a new exhibit featuring works by printmaker Anna Johnson on display now until August 4!

In the exhibit titled “Bridging Worlds,” Johnson seeks to bridge the gap between the world she lives in and the culture she came from.

When she feels or experiences discrimination, she is moved to make a difference by creating work about social injustice, religion and spirituality, and other issues that Native Americans, women, and people everywhere face on a daily basis.

Using imagery that comes directly from her Chippewa culture, Johnson incorporates many different totem animals and traditional designs. She works with a variety of media but concentrates on drawing and printmaking. In addition to using a range of media – including watercolor, ink and collage – Johnson incorporates various techniques and materials to create layers that document her creative process. For example, when working with collage, she employs simple texture and natural items, such as birch bark and different fabrics.

Johnson, originally from Bismarck, has lived most of her life in North Dakota. A recent recipient of an individual artist grant from The Arts Partnership, she received her BFA from NDSU in 2010. Her work can be found in private and institutional collections throughout the region. Johnson is an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain band of Chippewa Indians. She spends a great deal of her free time in the Turtle Mountains in Belcourt, North Dakota, where the natural beauty of the area continues to inspire her and influence her work.

All the artwork on display at Nichole’s is available for purchase; please speak to the cashier if you are interested in purchasing a framed print. Nichole’s Fine Pastry is located at 13 8th Street South in downtown Fargo.
