FMCT’s Production of Billy Elliot The Musical
Fargo Moorhead Community Theatre is pleased to announce Billy Elliot The Musical, music by Elton John and book and lyrics by Lee Hall, as the final mainstage production of its historic 70th season. Earning ten Tony Awards, ten Drama Desk Awards, and four Laurence Olivier Awards, Billy Elliot The Musical captures the solidarity of a community during the 1985 miner’s strike in North Eastern England through the eyes of a young man with the potential for dancing greatness.
Directed and co-choreographed by Anna Carol, Billy Elliot The Musical follows young, motherless Billy who trades boxing for ballet shoes when a teacher notices his potential. His passion for dance swells as he takes lessons to audition for the Royal Ballet School behind his father’s back, as the community fights against the oppressive police and privatizing government threatening to crumble their community. Billy Elliot The Musical uses dance to express poverty, political turmoil, family strife, solidarity in friendship and following personal passion.
Among a cast of almost 30 players, the cast showcases community members from age seven and up. FMCT is also proud to feature two young men: Drake Aasen in the title role of Billy Elliot and Yukon Maughan as best friend, Michael. Additional choreography by Matt Gasper, Music Direction by Nick Albrecht and Eric Saari; Stage Managed by Michelle Soto and Anthony Albright.
