“Cameron Seibold’s Play opens at the Rourke”

The Rourke Art Gallery Museum is pleased to announce Play, an exhibition of screenprints by artist and MSUM senior Cameron Seibold.  The member’s preview of the exhibit is on Friday 24 February from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and is open to members of the Rourke.  The public opening of the exhibition is on Sunday 26 February from 1:30 to 4 p.m. with a gallery talk by Seibold at 3 p.m.  The last day to view Play is Sunday 19 March.  The Seibold exhibit and events coincide with Brandon LaPlante’s Bridging the Great Divide.

Cameron Seibold’s Artist Statement

“Play” is a series of screen prints that explore themes of nostalgia, memory, and childhood. Each image is a digital collage of scanned materials such as books, library slips, 1 hour photo negative envelopes, letters from old friends, and photographs from my family’s photo albums. The images reference childlike wonder and play, as well as subtle nods to growing up and the responsibilities and melancholy that follow. I find that working in digital collage has many advantages and enables me to do things that would be difficult with traditional methods, but digital printing left me wanting something more that would compliment the concept aesthetically. Screen printing provides an analogue quality that compliments the content of “Play” in a tangible way.
