My Journey to America: A Kurdish American Story at Moorhead Public Library
March 23, 2017@7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
A Kurdish American’s Journey
Newzad Brifki, Founder and Director of the Kurdish Community of America, will read from his newly published memoir, My Journey to America: A Kurdish American Story, at 7:00 p.m. on March 23 in the Moorhead Public Library, 118 5th St. S.
The book tells of the flight of Brifki’s family from Saddam Hussein’s Iraq to a refugee camp in Turkey and of their eventual resettlement in the United States. It is the story of his successful struggles, leading to a degree in Business Administration from Minnesota State University Moorhead and a feeling of peace with his identity as a new American. He founded the Kurdish Community of America in 2009 to promote cultural education and serve as a resource center for the Kurdish community in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
The reading is in conjunction with a poster exhibit, “Our Immigrant Neighbors,” which was the work of a class of History and Anthropology students at MSU Moorhead, and a photo exhibit put together by The World in Fargo Moorhead project.
