Please join us at the Spirit Room, in Gallery II, for the exhibit and reception of Milena Marinov’s “Roots”. This exhibition is homage to traditional and detail oriented work of ink drawings and iconography. Marinov’s work is inspired by her Bulgarian heritage, religious art and her apprenticeship under Elena Kanterva, a prominent iconographer and teacher of Iconography and Art History at the Academy of Fine Art in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Marinov has also spent a decade at the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, restoring original frescos and icons in synagogues, churches, mosques, public buildings, houses and ancient tombs.
Marinov says, “I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. Art has always been a source of spiritual nourishment to me. Natural and ordinary things are an endless source of inspiration for my work. Drawing with ink is an unforgiving technique – it requires absolute precision, attention to detail, and patience.”
This exhibit is sponsored in part by the Arts Partnership and the North Dakota Council on the Arts.
Free and open to the public
