FMCT Employment Opportunities

Qualifications: Advance education in theatre arts or related field necessary. Experience in set design, construction and rigging, and scenic painting/finishing techniques required. Skills in the areas of lighting, sound, and prop design and creation are preferred.

Description: The Technical Director is tasked with leadership for the scene shop operations of the community theatre. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: purchasing materials as required by designs; generating construction drawings and plans; facilitating the building and finishing of scenery; loading and installing scenery onstage; overseeing the work of the scenic crews, assistants, and volunteers during work sessions as well as technical rehearsals and performances; and maintaining technical equipment and supplies for the scene shop as well as lighting and sound departments. Performance will be reviewed on an annual basis by the Executive Director and Artistic Director.

Essential Functions:

Artistic – In House Programming

  1. Coordinate with artistic staff regarding proposed FMCT programming.
  2. Oversee the technical direction of all in-house productions. This may include both design and build responsibilities as determined for individual shows within the production season.
  3. Collaborate and communicate with all production teams on assigned design and technical needs.
  4. Participate in staff and production meetings as schedules and workloads allow.
  5. Monitor and review all technical elements of in-house programming in collaboration with the production team members to ensure that schedules are met, and guidelines are adhered.
  6. Coordinate, oversee, and lead all production strikes.
  7. Keep inventory of technical equipment, tools, and supplies including lighting, sound, and communication equipment;Arrange for preventative maintenance, repair, and replacement of equipment within budgetary constraints.
  8. Assist guest designers and mentor student designers when they are utilized.
  9. Maintain a clean and organized production environment, on-stage and back-stage, for FMCT programming.
  10. Guide production Stage Managers and crews for the successful execution of technical production components.

Artistic – Outside Events

  1. Orientate facility renters to safety, technical characteristics, and other areas of facility operation.
  2. Supervise load-in/load-out of rental events or guest productions as required.
  3. Ensure facility remains orderly and secure.

Administrative

  1. Work with the Artistic Director in the preparation of annual budgets for all technical production.
  2. Adhere to budgets set for each production, program and equipment maintenance.
  3. Ensure safety, education, and training of volunteers in assigned work area.
  4. Supervise crews (volunteers and work study students) in the completion of all assigned tasks.
  5. Assist in the coordination of production and build schedules, including volunteer calls.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical demands: This position requires frequent use of hands and fingers to operate office equipment and construction equipment. Required to lift 50-75 lbs on a regular basis, more occasionally and with assistance. Required to bend, push, pull. Must be familiar with and able to operate basic office equipment, including but not limited to computer/printer, copier, and multi-line phone. Required to be familiar with, and able to operate, construction tools, both power and manual.
