No Lumps, Thank You book signing with Meg Spielman-Peldo

It’s been the “breast” year ever for Meg Spielman-Peldo.

In the time since she released her fine art book, No Lumps, Thank You: A Bra Anthologie, Spielman-Peldo has been marketing it pretty much nonstop across the country. She’s been finding an audience, too, keeping sales constant for the collection of humorous bra-inspired photos whose proceeds benefit breast cancer patients. In the process, she’s been learning a thing or two about the publishing industry.

“It’s up to me to promote the book,” she said, “and that’s been a lot of work. It’s educational and fun, but the book industry has changed so much, and it’s why it’s important to do a lot of press. It’s a constant thing that needs to be taken care of.”

And that means a lot of hussle. She calls and emails media outlets and blogs on a daily basis and is constantly looking for partners to help get the book in more hands.

“I’ve been super busy with this. It’s a whole different world, and this book has taken me through a whole different world. I’ve been doing things that throw me outside my comfort zone,” she said, mentioning that she was recently on the phone with the Philadelphia Eagles marketing department.

All that work is worth it, Spielman-Peldo said, when she receives a response from someone who has been touched or inspired by the book.

“I have gotten cards from people who saw the book while sitting in a cancer center or in their doctor’s office, and it made them laugh out loud during a day they’ve been struggling the most. It’s the coolest thing ever to have this impact on anyone. It’s been really rewarding.”

Moving forward, Spielman-Peldo said she has enough concepts for at least two more books and she is excited to have the chance to produce them. Prints of about two-thirds of the images from No Lumps, Thank You will be on display for the next few weeks at Nichole’s Fine Pastry and she will be on hand during tonight’s Kegs and Canvas event to sign copies of the books.
