The hills are alive – again! Act Up Theatre, in collaboration with Minnesota State University-Moorhead, will present the award-winning musical The Sound of Music, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the world-famous film which premiered in 1965.
Celebrating “60 Years of Love, Music & Resistance”, performances for The Sound of Music will be June 10-14, 2025 at 7:30 pm at the MSUM Roland Dille Center for the Arts. Music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse). The show is based on the 1949 memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp. The show will be directed by Craig A. Ellingson.
The Sound of Music accurately portrays the rise of Nazism in eastern Europe, set in Salzburg, Austria during the years leading up to World War II. The musical centers around the Von Trapp family singers, who escaped Austria to freedom by using their burgeoning musical career as the justification for leaving the country.
Act Up Theatre celebrates the enduring power of The Sound of Music in a world that still needs its messages of love, resilience and courage in resisting authoritarianism.
