SUMMARY:Exhibition Tour: Women Artists
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about the powerful women artists who shaped their centuries of artmaking with this guided tour\, covering artworks from the 17th to 21st centuries. Free. \nWomen Artists: Four Centuries of Creativity \nThis exhibition spans four centuries of work by extraordinary women who struggled against gender bias to take their places in history. For centuries\, women were denied formal training and faced difficulty showing and selling their art. Their work was often dismissed as inferior and classified as “craft” rather than “fine art.” Even women who possessed undeniable talents were said to have overcome the limitations of their gender in order to succeed in a man’s field. Real progress came in the 1960s\, when feminist and equal rights movements opened new paths for women to study\, teach\, and create art.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Guerrilla Girls
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of the exhibition Women Artists: Four Centuries of Creativity at Plains Art Museum\, the Guerrilla Girls will visit North Dakota for the first time. \n\n\nThe Guerrilla Girls are anonymous feminist artists and activists who expose gender and racial inequalities in the art world. The group formed in New York City in 1985 in response to an international exhibition of art at the Museum of Modern Art that included less than 8% women artists. \n\n\nAt Plains Art Museum in Fargo\, only 10.5% of the permanent collection’s 6\,000 objects were made by women artists.  \n\n\nWhat can be done to achieve equality in the arts? When the Guerrilla Girls protests were ignored\, they turned to ‘guerrilla’ art tactics\, like wheat-pasting posters across Manhattan. This included their famous piece “Do women have to be naked to get into the Met Museum?” that read “Less than 5% of the artists in the Modern Art Sections are women\, but 85% of the nudes are female.”  \n\n\nJoin us at Plains Art Museum to hear directly from the Guerrilla Girls. \nMembers receive a 15% discount on tickets! Become a member HERE to receive the promo code to use at checkout. Already a member? Contact development@plainsart.org for your code. \n\n\nOn January 22\, 2026\, at 6:30 pm\, the Guerrilla Girls will deliver their classic presentation with a Fargo twist. (And yes\, they will remain anonymous throughout their presentation.) VIP ticket holders will have priority seating as well as an opportunity to meet the Guerrilla Girls before their gig.
