SUMMARY:Basket Weaving the Chevron Carrier with Marcy Blikre
DESCRIPTION:About this trip\nParticipants will learn how to weave a base\, weave start and stop rows\, add accent colors\, rim the basket\, and add the wooden handle. Participants will select three colors for the accent rows. The accent rows are fun to weave but may be a bit challenging. Participants will select the three colors during class. The dimensions of this basket are approximately 10” x 6” x 7” high (without the handle). The top opening measures approximately 12” x 9”. \nGina Kieft has given permission to teach this basket in a modified format. \nCheck out her webste! www.ginasbaskets.com \nAges 16 and over. \nLunch is provided by the Nome Schoolhouse. \nClass begins at 9 am and will last 8 hours. \nAbout the Instructor\nHi I’m Marcy Blikre. This passion of basket weaving had a simple beginning – I signed up for basket weaving classes through Moorhead (MN) Community Education. Little did I know it would become more than a simple pastime! I have been weaving for over fifteen years and belong to the Headwaters Basketmakers Guild (Bemidji\, MN). I attend several workshops each year to learn various weaving techniques and to get new ideas from the teachers and fellow weavers. As a retired educator\, I love to teach basket weaving to those interested in this lost art form. A useful basket is one of beauty and purpose. I am drawn to weaving utilitarian style baskets using flat or round reed but will also use natural materials such as willow and birch bark. Each basket is distinctive in size\, style\, color\, and presentation.

SUMMARY:Greenday's American Idiot - West Fargo Events
DESCRIPTION:AMERICAN IDIOT\nJohnny\, Tunny and Will struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 world. When the three disgruntled men flee the constraints of their hometown for the thrills of city life\, their paths are quickly estranged when Tunny enters the armed forces\, Will is called back home to attend to familial responsibilities\, and Johnny’s attention becomes divided by a seductive love interest and a hazardous new friendship. \nAn energy-fueled rock opera\, American Idiot\, features little dialogue and instead relies on the lyrics from Green Day’s groundbreaking album\, as well as several songs from its follow-up release\, 21st Century Breakdown. American Idiot is a high-octane show with strong social messages that serve as a cautionary tale for the 21st century. \nGreen Day’s American Idiot is intended for mature audiences only and may be inappropriate for audience members under the age of 16 due to adult situations\, simulated drug use\, and strong language. \nAugust 8-10 & 12-15 at 8:15pm\nPerformed at: Essentia Health Plaza at The Lights (3150 Sheyenne Street\, West Fargo\, ND 58078). \nAMERICAN IDIOT Pricing\nVIP Tables\nIncludes tickets\, a sharable charcuterie appetizer\, and drink vouchers for four (must purchase entire table).\n$240 – Seats for Four \nReserved Seating\nAssigned chairs in reserved sections 100\, 200 & 300 \nAdult – $28\nSenior (65+) – $24\nStudent – $20 \nGeneral Admission Seating\nNon-assigned seating/placement; first-come\, first-sat. SUMMARY:Fargo Theatre - SAW The Musical
DESCRIPTION:SAW The Musical: The Unauthorized Parody of Saw premieres Off-Broadway Fall 2023 in New York after its smash out-of-town tryout in Philadelphia last year! One of the most thought-provoking horror films of all time now is…a musical. SAW The Musical hilariously captures the events of the first movie\, parodying the Saw that started it all\, following from where Lawrence Gordon and Adam Stanheight find each other for the first time in the bathroom trap. Will they follow “the rules” as they discover each other’s secrets? Will they escape the game in time and saw right through? A love story with fluidity (and lots more fluids)\, SAW The Musical: The Unauthorized Parody of Saw is Little Shop of Horrors meets Avenue Q \, pushing the boundary on sexuality and how to love. \n\n\n\n\nMonday\, August 11th\, 2025 • 7:30pm show\, 6:30pm doors • Starting at $45.50 • Mature Audiences\n\nTICKETS

SUMMARY:Bas Relief Sculpting with Daphne Clark
DESCRIPTION:About this trip\nIn this hands-on class\, students will learn the art of bas-relief sculpture\, an ancient technique where images modeled and sculpted onto a flat surface to create a three-dimensional effect. Throughout the class\, students will explore the principles of composition\, depth\, and shadowing to make their sculptures come to life. The instructor will guide students through each stage\, from initial design and concept to refining and finishing their pieces. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced artist\, this class is designed to inspire creativity and build a strong foundation for creating bas reliefs. By the end of the course\, students will have a finished bas-relief artwork and a deep understanding of this beautiful sculptural technique. \nDaphne Clark\nDaphne was raised in rural North Dakota\, near the Montana border\, where she spent much of \nher adolescence at her grandparent’s ranch; chasing cows\, building fences\, milking cows and \nhelping check for spring calves. She has always loved to be outside enjoying the nature that \nNorth Dakota and Montana have to offer. \nIn 2012\, Daphne enrolled at the Academy of Art University to pursue a Master’s in Fine Art. It \nwas a natural fit to bring together her background and love for ranching and the outdoors into\nher art. Daphne believes there is a story in these rural areas just waiting to be told to the rest of \nthe world and she wants to tell that story through her paintings and sculptures.

SUMMARY:Lecture—Amherst is Paradise: Emily Dickinson’s Place of Sense\, with Sheila Coghill and Thom Tammaro
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Sunday salon with MSUM professors emeriti Sheila Coghill and Thom Tammaro to hear more about the muse and spark point of this year’s Midwestern theme (To Make a Prairie: Meditations on Poetry\, Ecology\, and Place): Emily Dickinson. \nAbout the lecture:\nIs Emily Dickinson more—or less—than the sixteen-year-old whose 1847 daguerreotype image has burned itself in our consciousness and memory for more than a century and a quarter? Why did she rarely leave her birth place of Amherst\, Massachusetts? Where was Dickinson most at home? Where were her sacred spaces? These are a few of the questions Coghill and Tammaro will contemplate in their presentation\, “Amherst is Paradise: Emily Dickinson’s Place of Sense.” \nAbout your lecturers:\nSheila Coghill and Thom Tammaro\, emeriti professors of English from Minnesota State University Moorhead\, are the editors of Visiting Emily: Poems Inspired by the Life and Work of Emily Dickinson\, recipient of a 2001 Minnesota Book Award and a 2001 AAUP Book\, Jacket\, and Journal award for design and production.\nTogether\, they also edited companion “Visiting” anthologies about Walt Whitman\, Robert Frost\, and William Carlos Williams—all published by the University of Iowa Press. They reside in Moorhead.
