SUMMARY:Dyer’s Circle: Natural Color Workshop Series\, with Amanda Heidt
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first four Sundays in November as we embrace a new season by slowing down\, creating together\, and learning about natural dyes. Each three-hour session combines brief lectures with hands-on exploration\, offering a chance to make\, experiment\, and connect within a community setting. \nEach week highlights a new dye focus: indigo\, warm hues like madder and marigold\, cool and neutral tones like logwood and osage\, and finally\, experimental techniques such as eco-printing and pigment lakes. Participants will explore stitching\, tying\, and folding\, as well as practice layering and overdyeing fabrics to create depth and richness.\nParticipants will leave with a collection of naturally dyed textiles\, including three yards of cotton\, two tea towels\, a tote bag\, and experimental swatches on silk and gauze. Eco-prints on paper and fabric will provide additional ways to incorporate color into the winter season. \nDyer’s Club is a fun\, friendly space for makers of all skill levels. Whether you’re new to fiber arts or experienced with dyes\, participants will develop skills\, gain knowledge\, and join a community— all while celebrating the beauty of natural colors. \nSupply/Proper Attire: All supplies will be provided by the instructor. Please wear old/project clothing or an apron. \nDuration: 3 hours per session (x4)\nCourse fee: $215* (Registration below)\n(Two full scholarships are available for students experiencing financial hardship. Awarded on a first-come\, first-served basis. Please contact Cady at cady.rutter@therourke.org to inquire.)\n\n* Cancel your registration up to 14 days prior to class day by emailing museum@therourke.org for a partial refund. \nAbout Your Instructor: Amanda Heidt is an artist and educator based in Fargo\, North Dakota. She serves as the Artist Researcher and Studio Coordinator at North Dakota State University’s PEARS (Printmaking Education and Research Studio)\, where she teaches courses in contemporary theory and practice\, foundations\, and printmaking. Originally from Bismarck\, Heidt earned her BFA in Printmaking from Minnesota State University Moorhead and her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her process-driven practice combines natural dyeing\, weaving\, and printmaking\, with an emphasis on ecology\, materiality\, and the rhythms of slow craft. She draws inspiration from the Midwestern landscape\, working with plants\, fibers\, and pigments to explore cycles of growth\, color\, and community. Her work has been influenced by residencies at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop (NYC)\, Zea Mays Printmaking (MA)\, Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists’ Residency\, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts\, and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. She has received support from the North Dakota Council on the Arts and The Arts Partnership\, and was most recently awarded a Viking and Finnish Weaving Apprenticeship through the NDCA.

SUMMARY:Damnatio Memoriae Reception
DESCRIPTION:Reception Tuesday\, November 4th 2025\n5PM – 7PM\, Memorial Union Gallery\n1401 Administration Ave\, Fargo ND \nFREE SNACKS\nFREE THOUGHT\nFREE CONVERSATION \nThe history of art is shaped by an absence left by destruction\, neglect\, theft\, and the passage of time. These disappearances narrow our understanding of the past and the ability to restore very real\, profound stories essential to our humanity.  Of the work we now hold in Museums or personal collections\, countless others have not survived to the present.  Damnatio Memoriae refers to the erasure of a person from cultural memory through the destruction of public documents and displays. This exhibition examines the power of absence in affecting historical material\, visual culture and our understanding of the world. \nThis exhibition was co-curated by Joseph Stern (BS Public History Candidate).

DESCRIPTION:Mozart: Flute Concerto No.2 in D\nDeb Harris\, flute \nBloch: Concerto Grosso for Strings & Piano\nChristopher Zimmerman\, piano \nStravinsky: Soldier’s Tale \nHaydn: Symphony No. 83 “La Poule” \nMozart’s Flute Concerto No. 2 in D major will be brought to life by Deb Harris\, FMSO’s principal flutist\, whose expressive tone and command of the instrument reveal the concerto’s elegance. \nThe program also offers a rare treat as Music Director\, Christopher Zimmerman\, steps away from the conductor’s podium to perform at the piano in Ernest Bloch’s Concerto Grosso for Strings and Piano\, a richly textured work blending Baroque tradition with modern harmony. \nAlso featured are Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Tale\, a lively and theatrical piece full of storytelling\, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 83\, “La Poule”\, known for its playful motif.
