We’re not sure why, but the title Voyeurs seems totally on the nose for just about any exhibition or other creative work. Artists, you have to admit, sometimes seem like voyeurs, or at least engaged observers with the knack for showing us the things we should have been seeing while we were seeing something else. Whatever the case, it also seems especially appropriate for Billy Black (a photographer), Spider Johnk (a painter), and Punchgut (an illustrator), as all three have a knack for visual storytelling. The exhibition kicks off with an opening reception tomorrow night from 6 – 7 p.m. at The Rourke. (Image via The Rourke.)
Recent Concordia grad Ann Solyst extends the “voyeur” principle a step further, claiming in a press release for her current exhibitions at The Spirit Room that life is so brief it is especially worthy of observation. For further inspiration, Solyst turns to the worlds of mythology and folklore for her subject matter, while also providing a meditation on birds, a symbol of freedom stemming from Solyst’s experiences in Florence, Italy, as a student. Solyst’s work is currently up at the Spirit Room. A reception will be held on Saturday from 1 – 3 p.m. (Image: Ann Solyst, The Little Sea Maid, courtesy the Spirit Room.)
