Weekend Thingies: Bob, Kouba, Jass

Ok, yeah, so Bob Dylan’s in town this weekend. No big whoop. It’s just Bob. You know. THE Bob Dylan. The guy who should be on your short-short-bucket list of live shows. Just sayin’.

Other things to consider for your short list this weekend:

The opening reception (and BBQ!) for MacKenzie Kouba’s new solo exhibition, Divine Oddities, Friday, 5:30 p.m., at The Rourke. An artist talk is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. The show will be up through September 23.

Threadleaf Studios, a new all-purpose art space for young adults, will celebrate its opening tonight at DK Custom Framing with a show of work by Threadleaf founders Kaylyn Gerenz and Chelsey Dahlstrom. The fun starts at 7 p.m. Check out our profile of the space here.

Tonight, catch Dorthy Fix at the Red Raven. Stop in Friday as the Raven heralds the return of its homegrown music night, FM’s 15 (as in, 15 minutes of fame). Blues/country singer Grace Askew (Memphis) will join in, too. 7 p.m.

The NOH8 campaign will swing through town on Saturday with a stop at ecce art + yoga. The campaign, a photo project protesting the passage of Proposition 8, gives you an opportunity to purchase an elegant portrait while lending your image to the project. Details here.

Show your support for young jazz musicians at the Jass Festival this Saturday and Sunday at the Fargo American Legion. Click over for schedules and full details.
