Plains Art Museum is proud to present Carrying Things from Home–a series of seven woodcuts with hand dyed chine collé by printmaker Annalise Gratovich. The prints reveal captivating stories combining historical, cultural, home, and familial ties. The totemic beings encompass the identity of individual icon opening us up the merging of aesthetic portals. Throughout this exhibition we will see signs and symbols that tell us about Gratovich’s life and her family’s displacement during World War II. This collection invites us to decipher the language of patterns, heirlooms, decoding personal stories and motifs that connect human experience that resonates across time and cultures.
