The Dakota Brass Quintet was formed in 1984. The Quintet evolved from a group that played at Olivet Lutheran Church to playing free jazz concerts throughout the community, including at assisted living facilities.
The musicians presently include Greg Post (trumpet), retired Sanford doctor and administrator; Mike Wavra (trumpet), retired from the postal service; Pastor Pete Schiefelbeim (French horn), semi-retired from the ministry; Lee Hoffsomer (trombone), recently retired physician; Brian Tessmann (tuba), retired North High band director; and Gene Okerlund (Euphonium), retired music administrator-Fargo Public Schools. Together, the musicians represent over 300 combined years playing instruments.
